Shady Vale Inn was owned by the Ohmsford family.
A large structure consisting of a main building and a lounging porch with two long wings extending out and back on either side. Made of huge logs cut and laced on a high stone foundation and covered with a wood shingle roof. Its roof was much higher than that of family residences. The central building was well lit. The sleeping quarters were in the two wings. Wooden steps on the long porch led up to the wide double doors in the centre of the building. The large lounging room was filled with benches, high-backed chairs and several long heavy wooden tables set against the wall to the left and rear. A huge fireplace was in the centre of the left wall. A long serving bar ran along the right wall. Double doors at the back of the room led to a hallway, which led to a number of rooms including the kitchen.1The Sword of Shannara – pp 12-13
